This significant Texas County was the setting for events that resulted in the Texas Declaration of Independence. Brazoria County organized in 1836, and named after the Brazos River. Recent Census (.gov) reports mention the county’s population has increased to 354,195. Brazoria County features a vast area of land and natural resources that saw the creation of the Republic and claims its notorious motto, “Where Texas Began”.
The largest city in the county is Pearland, and Angleton is the county’s administrative center. Other cities and towns in Brazoria County include Alvin, Brazoria, Holiday Lakes, Lake Jackson, Manvel, Freeport, Quintana, Rosharon, and West Columbia.
