Founded in 1838, Fort Bend County holds a notable position in the history of Texas. The county received its name after a small military blockhouse near a bend in the Brazos River. Sugar Land is the largest city in Fort Bend County, and its county seat is in Richmond. Other cities and towns in the county include small parts of Houston, Katy, Pearland, Cinco Ranch, Mission Bend, as well as Missouri City, Stafford, Arcola, Fulshear, Rosenberg, Fresno, Sienna Plantation, Needville, and Greatwood.
