Residents of Kresston will be zoned to Magnolia ISD. The school district just purchased 15.7 acres of land in Kresston for building a new on-site elementary school using funds from the November 2022 bond referendum. Magnolia West High School is an authorized IB World School. The program is offered to Junior and Senior students on campus. Those who complete the IB Diploma Programme and receive an IB Diploma are guaranteed 24 credit hours at any public Texas University.
How did Kresston get it’s name? The founder of Johnson Development Corp., Larry Johnson, grew up in the West Texas town of Kress about an hour South of Amarillo. Raised amidst a 300-acre tenant farm, Larry’s days were filled with milking cows, hauling hay, and countless hours spent atop his father’s trusty Ford tractor. It was there that the value of hard work and cultivated a deep-seated affection for the land—a passion that would later fuel his ascent as a leader in residential development. Larry passed away in 2022, and the name was a tribute to his history.
